From the autumn, the new youth leader will be developing the church’s youth ministry in Dereham, building connections with local schools and collaborating with other organisations working with young people. 

Lead Minister Rev Nigel Bayley explains how the new initiative came about: “We at Dereham Baptist Church have a heart for the young people in our town and a passion to help them to know and follow Jesus. We have run many different groups for children and young people through the years but since the COVID shutdown, it has been difficult to find the resources, both people and financial, to get something fresh up and running. Despite this, the desire to point these young people towards Jesus never dimmed and we continued to try and find a solution. “Then, out of the blue, we were suddenly offered some money for a Pastoral Youth Worker. We had not applied for this funding, it came through a contact in the church, but it enabled us to start planning to employ someone. Since then, other funding has been offered and we are now delighted to be in a position to advertise for someone to work 16 hours a week, initially for two years. We praise God for his provision and we are excited to see what he does as he leads us through this process and provides us with the right person for this work at DBC.” Dereham Baptist Church describes itself as a community of God’s people dedicated to being and making committed disciples of Jesus Christ, to see God’s Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven, and equipping the community to make a lasting impact on Dereham. A key part of their vision is centred on young people encountering God, awakening schools, and seeing a generation fully alive in Christ, as they believe that investing in the next generation is vital for the renewal of the church and the transformation of the town. Read more about the Pastoral Youth Worker vacancy here.
